Course Description:

Classical Writing's Herodotus covers the Confirmation, Refutation, and Commonplace levels of the Progymnasmata, teaching argumentative essay analysis and writing. This is a 24 week course, with a recorded class session for each week. Because this is a recorded class, your student can work at a slower or faster pace if desired. We have made the subscription period 9 months to allow for this.

This course is appropriate for students 9th grade and up who have completed Diogenes: Chreia.  If you have any questions about your student's readiness for this course, please email the tutor.

Recorded Class Meetings:

Each recorded class meeting is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Cost:

Total cost for a 9 month subscription is $100, which includes access to the class page where you will find many helpful links and information.

Required Materials

• Herodotus Student Guide PDF

• Answer Key to Herodotus

These materials are not included with the subscription, but you will be given the opportunity to order most of the books for this course at a discounted rate. Once you have subscribed and paid, you will be given instructions for placing this order directly from Classical Writing. You may also order many other Classical Writing materials at a 20% discount. Please note that some books, such as downloadable student guides, answer keys, and beta-versions of our books may not receive a discount.

Literature Assignments:

Optional but highly recommended literature assignments will also be scheduled for the students.  All of the literature assignments are available either online or at your local library. For those who prefer to purchase the books for their home library, you can order the literature selections by going to the Tutorial Bookstore for Literature and visiting the Chreia page.
