Learn more about the Progymnasmata and the Classical Writing Method Classical Writing's Diogenes: Chreia covers the Chreia level of the Progymnasmata, teaching advancing essay analysis and culminating in the modern expository essay. This course is appropriate for students 8th grade and up who have completed Diogenes: Maxim. If you have any questions about your student's readiness for this course, please email the tutor. Class Forum Procedures: Students will complete all assignments at home using the Diogenes: Chreia Student Guide (see Materials Needed below). This student guide contains an answer key. Students are encouraged to post their writing projects and imitation and analysis work on the class forum often (weekly, if possible). The tutor will monitor the class forum regularly in order to assess class progress and needs, and to give general feedback to the students. If it is evident that a student needs assistance, the student and parent will receive an email offer of assistance. In addition, students and parents also can post on the class forum and ask for specific help with assignments if they need it. Students are also encouraged to read other students’ work posted on the class forum. The home
educating parent will generally be responsible for evaluation and grading.
Classical Writing provides very specific and exhaustive editing
checklists which should enable parents to more easily evaluate their students'
progress. These class forums are not meant to replace parent/teacher
involvement, but to augment it. Private
tutoring sessions in a virtual classroom will also be available to class forum
participants, subject to tutor availability, to provide extra support if the
student has difficulty with any of the assignments or concepts. These private tutoring sessions are billed at
$20 per half hour session. Materials Needed:
